Christmas Publication size change

After talking with David king who is sending me all information for the christmas publication he has now informed me that he would prefer to have an 8 page booklet so that each church has a good amount of space for what they are paying.  This means there will be 2 ads per page - the image could be larger as will as the point size and also the adverts for things happening within christian aid can be included.

I am concerned considering the time frame as this means I will have to re-structure the whole booklet. Although it gives me an oppurtunity to work out how to make this look GOOD! I seem to be struggling with originality and actually making this in any way a professionally design booklet rather I am working straight on the computer without any thought or thinking process behind it.

I don't to say it is because I don't like this project as I feel this is exactly the sort of work I want to be helping with in the future but I do feel exceedingly unmotivated when coming up with something attention grabbing and un-churchy.  I need to head back to pen and paper so as to be more CREATIVE with the entire project.

Table plan

Again an attempt to keep it simple and a quick turn around this is the start of playing around with the layout of the table plan sticking with the same typefaces and colours.

Order of service

Hotdog fold order of service.

So as to design this within just a day I kept it very simple and similar to the invitation whilst making the format the most important part.  I am going to test print this on the stock I want it on and see how it folds, there is a chance that because of the weight of the stock it may not line up exactly how I would like so I may have to rethink the format.

This will be double sided and on the back is the striped pattern which is the same as on the invitation giving people a taste of the colour scheme.

Printed and Ready

Here is a final shot of the greetings cards I made for the Book Fair in manchester.  I am really considering extending this brief for after I get back from my honeymoon so as to make the most of the images and range.  I really enjoyed doing these and would love to see them across more products and cards.
Wedding Stationery,

I want to use one of my briefs to complete all wedding stationery for my own wedding.

I have still to design the order of service, table numbers and place names and also the table plan.  As well as this I want to consider ideas of decoration for the church and also for the tables at the reception.
I have already got the finished invitations which have been sent out so I want all the rest of the design to be consistant with this.  Working only with Orange, yellow, grey and white and continuing with the same Type faces and layout.

I hav realised that I like to always ask why when answering a brief. I don't like to design things with fuss or without something being there for a reason.

When considering my wedding stationery with this approach I don't want to take away the fun aspect and I think a focus on colour is very important within it.

Final prints for book fair

These are the images I took to print with James.  I am printing 24 so there is a chance I will chose another design so that I can have 6 of each but also I may ask around and see which is most popular around the studio and just print 6 more of them.

I am really happy with these. They are simple and sweet and suitable for the audience.

Church work

I have been doing a few bits and pieces for my church as little event invitations that are coming up.  I don't think they are my best work at all but they were done as small 1 hour projects so that they could get printed quickly.

Continuation of cup pattern for greetings cards

I have looked specifically at 2 colour pallets.  One which is quite soft and feminine and the other bright and contrasting.  When it comes to the printing of it and how the colours stand out I think I prefer the brighter colours as they seem to work really well together.
I briefly spoke to amber and she mentioned about rather than just using my own created type I could use existing type and manipulate them to create something new so that typographically they are still correct (kerning, leading, size etc.)

Christian Aid Youth sect Logo

I have luckily been in touch with a friend from christian Aid in Birmingham who helps to run the youth sect of the organisation.  She informed me that they are undergoing a re-brand but simply have been unsuccessful with the current designs which have been sent in for the logo.  As she knows I am a graphic design student she asked if I could try to play around with some ideas simply to get them looking at some other possibilities of what could work for the younger generation. 11-18.
They will need the logo by the end of this week which just gives me 3 days to turn this round.  I specifically want to use this as just a day brief so that I can make the most of my time and not procrastinate.

She has sent me the style of logo they have turned down, although I am unable to show this for confidentiality reasons, and I have a clear understanding of what they are looking for within the design.

christmas publication continued - christian Aid

I have been working on a christmas publication to raise money for Christian Aid through summer and continued until now.  The deadline is just in one week.  I have found it quite difficult to find motivation to design for CHRISTMAS?! how did it come around so fast? But I think this is something to learn from in designing for seasons way in advance.  It was good to get live work for a large organisation although feel quite bad knowing that I haven't been able to give 100% of my time to it.

This again is something I can learn from in taking jobs on which I know I will want to do well.  This is important so that the client is not let down also.

The inside of the publication is advertising churches around the birmingham area - it started 6 to a page but sadly due to lack of interest just turned to 4 a page.  This is still to be changed.

They wanted the front cover to be classically christmassy but something people will take notice of.  I am not too happy with my final design but as the deadline is coming close and my time is spread between so many things I feel this is the one we will stick to.  I think it is definitely on the right lines and does still need a couple of tweeks.

I have stuck with my 'thing' which is hand drawn type plus a small illustration of the birmingham skyline.

Type Play

These are some of my initial type ideas for the greetings cards for the book fair.

This is the first Invite I have done for church. I really rushed it as I wanted it to be a quick turn around thing. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.  I'm not completely sure about the colours but I do like the hand drawn type.  I think it does the job for what it is.
