Speaking from Experience

For this 6 week projecct we are to create a range of products introducing the first years to our course in september. Of course we are speaking from experience as we will have gone through similar things to them and so can look at our own fears, concerns, problems from the beginning of this year for inspiration.

I outlined 5 problems
1 Having a life outside of Graphic design
2 Managing your time
3 How to look 'normal' in an art college.

and now i have chosen 2 to look further into and consider more ideas for these.

1 How to have a life outside of Graphic Design
- You cant! I Really like the idea of looking into this concept in a humorous way. Instead of talking about balancing life in and out of college, instead looking at how to take graphic design everywhere with you and making it a lifestyle. Making it clear that this course will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

2. How to manage your time effectively.
I think for me this is definitely something I struggle with. Mainly due to balancing my uni time with my part time Job and things at home. I want to look into ways in which a student can keep on top of every aspect of the course whilst taking into consideration life outside of uni and a way to make this manageable. It is really important not to become overwhelmed by the amount of work because as soon as this happens, as I have realised, instead of cracking on, it is easy to get a major mind block and stop everything.

What is a Line?

BUILDINGS

I have decided to focus on the quote 'A formation of Ojects, People or things, on, besides or behind one another.'As you can see i the images above, I am looking into the formation of buildings lined up on a street. The shapes created within them and the contrast in sizes/ shapes and Colours.

INITIALLY I want to look into the p
atterns created by these rows of houses. In these images below you can see how patterns are created through repetition of shapes. Sadly this means that the houses loose their individuality. Terraced houses and other family homes are built, as they are more these days, to save money and time sadly this means that the creative side is lost is practicality is the main focus.

I have been around Leeds, Bewdley and Minehead over the easter holidays and taken a series of photographs with which I hope to be inspired for some illustrations of buildings. Here are a few of my Photographs.
