Further sequence development

Untitled from Joanne Catlow on Vimeo.

Although only a few changes have been made every little helps making it as I first imagined.  I have simple changed the position of the type and altered where the lights shine.  I can't ever believe how long it takes to do the smallest thing.

After thinking more about it I think it would definitely look a lot better without the lights on it so the original colours are there instead of artificial ones.

Packaging.

I started to look into Packaging the DVD as I realise it cannot be an after thought.
I want to keep it to the simple colours that are on the sequence and use the title on the front.
Somehow want to make the folding a little different but not over complicated.
These are just my initial ideas and thought I should get them down before they are gone forever.
Here I have used the entire title and found a workable font for 'but' which I am now going to use in the sequence it self.  Obviously this is just the front of the packaging. Below I have payed around with opacity and colour to work out the most suitable.

I quite like the word without the colours on top, Though I don't feel the outline is quite right... though can't put my finger on why...?!

So Below I have tried without the outline and infact just used splashes of colour on some letters. This is because the words will be cut out from the front, then underneath that will be another layer with just the colours on and a few silhouettes of the sea creatures cut out also. This means parts of the colours will be seen through the spaces of the type.

This then also means that on the inside there will just be something similar to this (but cut out of the paper) keeping it really simple but fun and colourful too.

Screen Shots from the animation so far

I have just grabbed a few screen shots from the variations of sequences I have done so far. In This Top one I have used 2 lights which constantly shine onto the animation. Sadly it completely changed the colours which I originally decided on, though I really do like the way it seems more 3D and the Weedy sea dragons do stand out. Another issue would be when zoomed into the word 'weird' It looses its original colour completely and I really don't think this is what I wanted. Knowing that using a camera wasn't talked about in the after effects sessions helps me make the decision that they are not needed and do seem very artificial.

1.

I did '2' before the one above.
In this Animation the I have kept the colours really simple and the sea dragons are a little too small I think. When I zoom in on them it goes a little too quickly and is too much of a blur.
I think I am going to add a texture to the background on this, as I have in the earlier story boards.

animation begins

Yes... it is ridiculous... but worth a try...

I thought it might be a good idea to try edit a song and add the word 'fish' in place of a common word...
it was worth a try... but sadly failed and not sure it is usable. It was too easy to laugh... now I know I can't take myself seriously. (I felt I HAD to put this here as it definitely is research!)

New story board

animating the Jelly fish and New assets.

I have created these to be used within the title sequence story boarding which I will now be doing digitally. This enables me to then use these directly in the final sequence and idents.

I have lessoned the opacity of the dumbo octopus so it keeps some of its deep sea weird-ness and looks a bit like a ghost.

I have also created the lines etc in illustrator so as to keep the quality and get exactly the type of line I am looking for.

I have also re-created the jelly fish which was originally pink so as to minimise the amount of colours on screen at one given time. This is just to make it quite an easy animation to watch and not an eye soar. The idea is for it to be quite relaxing and peaceful.
